Donna McKechnie
Visiting Artist
Donna McKechnie, who was inducted into the Theatre Hall of Fame in 2019 and who received a Tony Award for her performance in the original company of A Chorus Line, is regarded internationally as one of Broadway’s singing and dancing leading ladies, having starred in and choreographed productions in London’s West End, as well as major theatrical productions in Tokyo and Paris.
Some of Ms. McKechnie’s Broadway credits include HOW TO SUCCEED IN BUSINESS…, THE EDUCATION OF HYMAN KAPLAN, SONDHEIM: A MUSICAL TRIBUTE, (which she also choreographed), PROMISES-PROMISES, COMPANY, ON THE TOWN and STATE FAIR. ( Fred Astaire Award)
She has starred in numerous regional plays and musicals, including FOLLIES, MACK and MABEL, GYPSY, THE GLASS MENAGERIE, and a National tour of SWEET CHARITY (Helen Hayes Nomination) Donna has performed extensively on the concert stage and with symphony orchestras, as well as TV Specials and dramatic series including Fame, Cheers, and Dark Shadows.
When she is not performing in a new production, 4GIRLS4, she teaches a Musical Theatre Performance Class at HB Studio in New York. Donna most recently restaged Michael Bennett’s choreography for The American Dance Machine at the Joyce Theatre in New York. She is currently touring with her one woman show, SAME PLACE: ANOTHER TIME.
While teaching at Broadway Theatre Project this summer, McKechnie will be honoring one rising musical theatre student with the Donna McKechnie Musical Theatre Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded to the student who demonstrates potential and passion for the musical theatre artform and industry.
