On Land: July 8 – 19, 2020 @ University of South Florida and TownePlace Suites North
At Sea: July 19 – 26, 2020 Aboard Norwegian’s Breakaway, Sailing the Western Caribbean
BTP’s final week will be spent on Norwegian’s ship, Breakaway!
Playbill refers to Broadway Theatre Project as “the world’s most prestigious musical theatre arts education program for high school and college students.”
BTP continues to offer rigorous technique training.
The Resident Faculty consists of our highly respected teaching resident artists who spend the most time with the apprentices working on every aspect of the basic disciplines of musical theatre: acting, singing and dancing. They Mentor the students, guide them in artistic choices, if needed, for their year ahead and help to create the performance.
Our Visiting Artist Series features yet more artists of high calibre. These artists fly in, spend a day teaching small classes, and then fly back. This year’s artists include professionals who need no introduction:
Donna McKechnie, Peisha McPhee, Michael Orland, and Michael Cerveris, among others.
We’re excited to announce that members of the Resident Faculty will help mentor selected students in a pilot program, Creative Works Lab. Donna McKechnie, Michael Orland and Peisha McPhee will also spend time with the students who are involved in this new venture.
Our highly successful Pre-College Series will provide unique opportunities for participants to navigate the college audition process, including technique driven and solution focused work with representatives from several musical theatre college programs. Individual attention is paid to each student’s desired college application path by people such as College Audition Coach, Tim Evanicki, of The College Audition.
All of our faculty in the This Pre-Professional Series help students to navigate the professional world of Musical Theatre. BTP’s invaluable association with not only artists in this field, but also the people who cast as well as represent artists, is unmatched. In some cases, potential opportunities in that world are made possible:
· Students will work with (and potentially be scouted by) creative and talent agent Greg Uliasz from talent agency, McDonald/Selznick Associates.
· Instruction will be provided by Casting Director Scott Wojcik of WS Wojcik | Seay Casting in on-camera filming as well as the casting process for Musical Theatre productions.
· Michael Rodriguez of The Roster Agency, will give in depth explanations regarding agents, managers, and other forms of representation for actors.
· Robert Dean Hertenstein (Norwegian’s Director of Entertainment Production) who is largely responsible for Norwegian’s huge success for entertainment on the high seas, will hold a professional Norwegian audition for BTP Pre-Professionals.
· Clay Christopher, BTP’s Program Director and Norwegian’s Breakaway’s former Cruise Director will talk about life as an artist in the cruise line industry.
Performance opportunities onboard Norwegian’s Breakaway, while sailing the Western Caribbean for one week, include select students performing in our (public invited) Cabaret, and all students performing in BTP’s Final Production on the Breakaway’s Main Stage.
