| Ben recently appeard in the feature film Idlewild and in the Broadway
show Wicked. Other credits include Jelly's Last Jam; Sweet Charity;
Hair; Jesus Christ Superstar; Grind; Pippin (Tony Award for Best Actor
in a Musical/Drama Desk Award); I'm Not Rappaport, San Francisco
production; and the Madison Square Garden production of A Christmas
Carol.
His one-man show earned him the highest honors awarded by the
American Guild of Variety Artists: Entertainer of the Year, Rising
Star, and Song and Dance Star. Television guest spots: Touched by an
Angel, Second Noah, co-star: The Nanny, New York Undercover, The Fresh
Prince of Bel Air, Star Trek - The Next Generation, Intruders: They Are
Among Us, CBS (Emmy Award nomination).
Recurring roles: Silk Stalkings,
J.J. Starbuck, Booker, and Webster as well as his own television
series, Tenspeed and Brownshoe, created by Stephen J. Cannell. His role
in the television docudrama Louis Armstrong - Chicago Style led to
several widely acclaimed roles, including Chicken George in the Emmy
Award-winning mini-series Roots, The Jesse Owens Story, the CBS
mini-series Ellis Island, (Golden Globe nomination) and Ben Vereen: His
Roots (Seven Emmy Awards).
