Qualifications

Broadway Theatre Project applicants must be high school or college age (at least 16 years of age). Applicants must excel in at least one of the disciplines of musical theatre, acting, voice or dance. Applicants must have an interest in strengthening their skills in all areas of musical theatre and will be required to study all of these areas when attending the project.

Room & Board

The tuition payment includes arrival and departure transportation between Tampa International Airport and USF, housing for 3 weeks at the University of South Florida and 3 meals a day, 7 days a week. It also includes participation in all classes held in the Fine Arts Complex at USF and the performance in Broadway and Beyond at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center. Scholarships are awarded based primarily on financial need. Once a student has been accepted into the program, scholarship information will be mailed upon request.

Apprentices will be required to provide proof of health and accident insurance by May 19, 2008. Apprentices will have access to The University of South Florida health center, University Community Hospital, and a walk-in clinic across from the campus. BTP requires a health exam for all participants. Health forms must be completed and returned by May 19, 2008.


Upon acceptance, apprentices will be mailed a handbook detailing all rules and regulations by which they must abide during the Project as well as other pertinent information.

Tuition

The total cost of attending the 2008 session is $3150.00. Once a student has been accepted, a non-refundable deposit of $600.00 is due by March 21, 2008. The balance of tuition, $2550.00, is due by May 19, 2008. Checks or money orders should be made payable to Broadway Theatre Project. No refunds are possible after June 2, 2008.

Remember to bring your application to the live audition or mail it with your videotape.


Live Auditions

For your live audition, please prepare a one-minute monologue and 16 bars of a song.

Live auditions will be held in Utah,Texas, Florida, Louisiana, New York and Colorado on the these dates. An accompanist will be provided at the audition, so please bring sheet music. A cassette player is available on request. If no monologue is prepared, then a cold reading will be provided. Please remember to bring jazz and tap shoes, as dance combinations will be taught at the audition.

Auditions are open calls.  No appointments are necessary.

Taped  Auditions - Solo

If you are unable to attend a live audition, you may submit a recorded audition on VHS vidoetape or DVD. Your audition should include a one-minute monologue, a complete song, a Jazz combination and a Tap combination.

Taped  Auditions - Group

If four or more applicants from the same school or studio would like to audition, but are unable to attend a live audtion, they may submit a group audition on VHS or DVD. All applicants auditioning in a group audition will have their $35 audition fee waived. Each member of the group should perform their own song and monologue as specified above. Jazz and Tap combinations may be performed solo or as a group, as long as each dancer can be clearly seen.

There are no time limits on dance combinations, but they should demonstrate the applicant's highest level of dance ability. Videotapes and DVDs are not returnable.


Taped auditions must be recieved no later than February 13, 2008

Every audition packet should include:

  • A completed application,
  • Payment (Application fee: $35.00*)
  • Headshot or snapshot of the applicant 
  • Audition tape (if not attending a live audition).

* Audition Fee waived if four or more applicants are from the same school and group audition is submitted via VHS tape or DVD.
